Trip overview

The Everest Base Camp trek is more than just a walk in the mountains – it’s a journey into a world where nature feels bigger, life moves slower, and every bend in the trail brings a new story. The trail passes through the Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that leads you to the base camp of the world’s highest mountain, Mount Everest (8,848m). Along the way, you will get the opportunity to discover varied flora and fauna. The trail retraces the steps of great climbers like Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, making it a historical expedition as well.
It starts with a breathtaking flight to Lukla, the little gateway to the Khumbu, where the air is crisp and the mountains already feel close enough to touch. The Tenzing-Hillary Airport of Lukla is named after the Everest climbers, Sir Edmund Hillary & Tenzing Norgay, and is one of the most dangerous airports in the world. Reaching this airport and coming back from there is a thrilling adventure in itself.
From Lukla, you will trek to Phakding, where we will rest for the first day of our trek journey. Early morning, you will be walking to the most famous town of the region, Namche Bazar, the gateway to Everest. Continuing on the journey from Namche Bazaar, you will get to explore Tengboche Monastery, Sagarmatha National Park, and the raw & dramatic landscapes. Then, when we reach Gorak Shep, we will visit Kalapatthar, from where you will witness the beautiful sunrise. As the first light hits Mount Everest, the trek feels complete, and you have completed the trek of a lifetime. We then head back through the same trail, and this time you will reach Lukla in no time.
If you’ve ever imagined yourself standing before the world’s highest peaks, with the wind in your face and the mountains stretching endlessly around you, this trek could be the moment you’ve been waiting for. It’s for those who want more than just adventure – for those who seek the quiet joy of being far from the noise, the thrill of pushing themselves, and the wonder of seeing nature at its most powerful. This itinerary is well curated by the experts so that you will get to experience most of the journey and a lifetime experience. So, whether you’ve trekked in the Himalayas before or this is your first time, the journey will challenge you, surprise you, and leave you with stories you’ll share for a lifetime.

Additional Information:

Some important hints:

  • Scan VISA cards, passports and other critical documents to phone or email for easy access.
  • There will be one porter between two trekkers, carrying a maximum of 25 kg (12 kg max. each) in a supplied soft duffel bags.
  • Please keep packing to a minimum and let; 12/15 kg if possible.
  • Each trekker to carry water, jacket, fleece, camera and daily needs in a small back-pack.
  • Most toilets on trek will be traditional squat toilets, with no toilet paper because local people wash themselves with their left hand and water, then wash their hands really well afterwards. Having some hard soap or hand-sanitizer is obviously a good idea. It’s advisable to bring some wet wipes or toilet paper but discard it in the bin or bring the used paper with you in zip lock bags to be polite as throwing it down the hole is not advised.
  • If you can’t do without technology, think about bringing a camera or phone (with extra storage/batteries), charging cable (and universal plug adapter), power bank (solar optional), and offline trekking map app (Maps.me, Gaia, GPS).
  • You cannot drink water from the tap, anywhere in Nepal, not even brush your teeth with it! Bottled water is universally available, but it is not environmentally sustainable (think millions of plastic bottles that are not recycled).
  • Money exchange is available in Kathmandu and Pokhara. So, when you arrived in Kathmandu you can easily change the USD in NPR.
